Suspect at large as one person killed in Delaware hospital shooting

Police chief says officers working to find suspect who shot two people, one fatally, inside Wilmington hospital

A suspect who shot two people in a Delaware hospital, killing one, was still at large on Tuesday, police said in a press conference. The shooting was reported around 3.30pm at Wilmington hospital, police chief Wilfredo Campos said during the news conference. Campos declined to release information about the victims’ identities or the condition of the person who was shot and survived. Investigators were working to identify and find the shooter and trying to determine how the person left the building, Campos said. ChristianaCare, which operates the hospital, said in an emailed statement it was diverting patients from its emergency department and “taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors”. “This is an active police investigation for a possible active shooter,” the statement said. A lockdown of the hospital was lifted by Tuesday night. Violence has been a persistent problem at hospitals across the US. Wilmington, which has about 71,000 residents and is Delaware’s largest city, is about 25 miles south of Philadelphia. Associated Press contributed reporting
