Superdetective in Hollywood 4 seems like one of those projects with which Hollywood tries to recover past hits without stopping to think carefully if there is today a public interested in it simply because something titled like that already existed decades ago. In a while we will have the opportunity to see (on Netflix) if this is so or not.
The project of a new sequel (or reboot, or mix) of the action saga that Eddie Murphy starred in in the 80s has been going for years without the matter moving too much until Netflix reached an agreement with Paramount Pictures to take care of the production; how well the comedian's return with Yo soy Dolemite and his new stand-up special worked for the platform surely had a lot to do with it.
In fact, it was even said that Netflix would be interested in producing two more sequels with the adventures of police officer Axel Foley, played by Murphy. But let's go slowly: first it is necessary to put the first one on its feet. It will be with the directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, who already demonstrated their good work in the action genre precisely with another late sequel for which nobody gave a penny and it turned out to be very good: Bad Boys for Life, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Then came the covid pandemic and everything was put on stand-by, but now The Hollywood Reporter has published the necessary update to verify that the Superdetective project in Hollywood 4 is still underway. It turns out that it is one of the future film productions that are scheduled to shoot in California locations, which is why it has just been granted the significant tax benefit it was opting to achieve.
In total, there are 23 films (10 productions by large studios and 13 independent ones) that will benefit from this economic incentive provided by the state of California, on account of the jobs and consumption estimated to be generated by these projects. Among the rest of the titles benefited are another Netflix blockbuster such as Rebel Moon, which will be directed by Zack Snyder, or the biopic of John Lennon and Yoko Ono that Jean-Marc Vallée is preparing for Universal Pictures.
