Jimmy Kimmel on Trump: ‘About as popular in New York as pineapple on pizza’
Jimmy Kimmel on Trump: ‘About as popular in New York as pineapple on pizza’

Late-night hosts discussed the president attending a key Knicks game after he threw a ‘hissy fit’ during an interview

Late-night hosts covered Donald Trump’s unpopular presence in New York and his viral interview tantrum. Jimmy Kimmel On Jimmy Kimmel Live! the host spoke about game three of the NBA finals, which has caused excitement in New York due to the unusual involvement of the Knicks. Trump was “too busy with the war to go to his son’s wedding but had no problem carving out time to swallow nachos at the Knicks game tonight”. Kimmel said Trump was able to attend such a late event as he was “able to squeeze in a nap in every one of his meetings” yet is “about as popular in New York as pineapple on pizza”. His attendance comes after he traveled to Wisconsin to speak to farmers who “are going through a lot right now” so he decided to brag about the size of his reflecting pool in DC, showing images off. “Looks like grandpa figured out how to print off his iPad,” Kimmel said. He didn’t offer help on how to get farmers out of “the hole he put them in” but decided to once again share his “latest and maybe greatest routine”, which has him refer to the Democrats as the dum-ocrats, “that is his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech now”. This week also saw Spencer Pratt from The Hills find out he is “about to be headed for them” after a count of votes determined that he won’t be in the LA mayoral race this November. “I guess those crystals didn’t work after all,” he said. Trump has claimed it was another election rigged by the Democrats to which Kimmel joked that for a party that is allegedly so dumb, “they sure are smart about stealing every election”. He also played footage of Trump storming out of the same interview, quipping that “when that dinner bell rings, he’s gone,” calling it a “hissy fit”. Jon Stewart On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart also spoke about the Knicks, first focusing on Elmo getting heat for tweeting that he “hopes both teams have fun”. “Are you fucking kidding me Elmo?” Stewart said and joked that “surely Elmo’s fellow New Yorkers responded to his wavering with our trademark grace and understanding” before playing footage of the opposite. Stewart then said that Trump was so excited that “he’s dyed his face Knicks orange and the back of his hands, let’s say, Knicks purple”. He called him an “incredibly fragile man-baby” during his viral interview tantrum and jokingly ribbed interviewer Kristen Welker as “a woman who won’t stop asking pertinent questions”. After some tough moments, he fell back on the “dirty rigged election” which Stewart called his “in case of journalism, break glass” and his “universal get out of interview card”. But “Trump’s failsafe failed to safe” as he once again couldn’t provide “a shred of credible evidence” for his claims. Stewart said “he stormed out because he was challenged” yet Welker later blamed it on the weather. “Maybe it’s time we stop making excuses for that man,” he said. Seth Meyers On Late Night, Seth Meyers said Trump “could not resist inserting himself into the NBA finals” with his New York attendance and said that while “the vibes have been immaculate” in the city, the president has managed to ruin them. He called him “a dude who does’t know shit about this team” and asked “Can you just let us have this one thing without making it all about you?” Meyers did say that his attendance “makes it 100 times funnier that he didn’t go to his son’s wedding”. When Trump was asked about the high price of tickets, he said to reporters: “That’s the way life goes.” Meyers called it “such a funny thing to say when you were elected to change how life was going”, with the president “taking a break from building my ballroom” to go. He also spoke about his ridiculed “hissy fit” after a journalist “dared to suggest to him, ever so gently, that he might be full of shit”. Meyers criticised his “whining” and asked “Why are you so surprised you get bad press?”
